Success! Message received.

Greetings,

I am so happy to be your child's teacher and I absolutely LOVE teaching Social Studies! I am a native of Georgia and have lived in the Metro-Atlanta area for 8 years after traveling extensively as a military spouse.  During my travels around the world I developed a true passion for all things social studies. My husband has now retired and we decided to make Georgia our permanent home. We have a daughter in high school and a son serving in the U.S Air Force and in our spare time we love to travel. The History Channel, visiting historical sites/museums and spending quality time with my family are my favorite things to do. I have taught 6th, 7th & 8th grade Social Studies in the private and public sector and come to you with several years of experience in the classroom.

My education consists of a B.S in Social Science, A Masters in Education with a specialization in Instructional Technology also from the University of Maryland University College, a Masters in Arts of Teaching for Middle Grades from Mercer University and a TAG endorsement from Metro-Resa. Professional development and life- long learning are important to me and over the summer, I attended Summer Institute for Social Studies and Summer Summit.  Additionally, this school year, I will pursue a Personalized Learning Pathway. As a result of my continuing pursuit in education, I aspire to enrich the quality of my student's educational process with the devotion that I have towards being a lifetime learner. My motto is that "everyone can learn & learning never ends".

I chose middle level education because I know that adolescents are in their formative years with various forms of pressures from today's trends and they need educators that are positive role models and that are committed towards their success and I am such an educator. Middle school students need advocates that will support their learning process as 21st Century learners & that believe in facilitating their learning through the use of various engaging learning strategies such as: project based learning, workshops and cooperative learning opportunities.  Rich technology based lessons that are rigorous, relevant, integrative and collaborative are what your child will receive in my class. An expectation is that my students will actively participate in authentic learning experiences. In order to accomplish this you can expect for your child to have a warm, consistent and safe classroom climate in which they can express themselves via a positive classroom culture.

One of my goals for your child is to expand their depth of knowledge through inquiry in order to expand on the facts and add to the concepts that are being presented to them as they hone in on their critical thinking skills this year.  Although each student may analyze, critique and learn through various modalities, our 1-to-1 initiative with the Dell Latitude minis will create a wonderful avenue for personalized learning and with all focus areas combined, students will be expected to enter  their 9th grade year with a greater appreciation and deeper comprehension of Social Science.  All students are full of greatness and I am so excited about seeing their growth as the year progresses! As an educator, role model, facilitator and lifelong learner, I will implement various research based best practices to assist students in understanding how our units of study transfers to everyday life.

Lastly, while my goals for my students are my top priority you can expect open lines of communication via my Social Studies Newsletter. Elkins Pointe is a great school and I am so excited to be a Titan! I am looking forward to a successful year with your child and I look forward to partnering with you!

Sincerely,
