                                                                  Homework/ Classwork / Policies

Policies: Effective this Semester: No NHI for classwork or homework can be turned in after 3 days late.

For Late assignments: 1 Day late assignments can earn no higher than 70%, 2 day late assignments can earn no higher than a 50%**************

Late Work (per syllabus):

Students are expected to turn in all assignments by the assigned due date.  The following is the 7th grade late work policy:  Work will be accepted one day late for up to a 70% (that’s a 30% penalty!).  After that, work may be turned in within the same 9 week grading period for up to 50% maximum credit.

Regarding assessments such as quizzes, tests and projects: students will lose ten percentage points for each day their assessment is late, with the maximum being five days.  At that point, students may earn up to a maximum of 50%.

**All work must be turned in no later than one week before grades are due to be reflected on the progress report. Late work must be turned in within the nine week period or it will NOT be accepted.

For Missing assignments:

Absence Make-Up Policy (Excused absences vs. Unexcused absences):

(FCBOE Policy JBD) Upon returning to school following an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the teacher for make-up work.  The student must complete make-up work within the time specified by the teacher.  At Elkins Pointe Middle School, the student will be given the same amount of time to make up the assignment as the student was absent unless other arrangements are mutually agreed upon.  The student will receive the actual grade on the make-up work if the absence was “excused.”  Make-up work for unexcused absences is subject to the late policy;  Make-up work submitted late may receive a zero.

Improving Grades (80/80) policy/ per syllabus:

Students who have earned below an 80% on a Test/Major project may ask the teacher for opportunities to improve their grade when all work required to date has been completed and the student has demonstrated a legitimate effort to meet all course requirements, including attendance. However, students who redo a Test/Major project cannot receive higher than a grade of 80% in accordance with Elkins Pointe’s 80/80 policy.  ****There is a clipboard at the SRC where students can sign up for a date to retest.

Extra Credit (per syllabus):

Extra Credit assignments may be provided after all other work has been completed. (***TASK CARDS are my extra credit option and students must answer all 10 task cards by writing the question and answer using R-A-C-E-S. By completing 10 Task Cards in this manner students will receive 10 points on their lowest test grade or classwork grade (per quarter). Currently, this is the only option available for extra credit in my class.

Extra Assistance: ***Sessions are Tuesdays at 8:00 a.m ****Please send a parent note for students to come down the hallway. Students may also work with their advisement teacher to coordinate a time during advisement to receive help.

There will be at least one scheduled help session per week.  Requests for individual help sessions must be made at least 24 hours in advance.  Individual teachers may have different schedules regarding extra assistance.

****All late/missing work must have a late/missing work letter attached to the work and must be placed in the blue folder for your period on the Student Resource Center table. The letters must be filled out by the student and are located on the SRC.****
